Shared Opportunity Service, Inc. (SOS) is a community based organization that was established in 1996, the result of a community-needs assessment that identified gaps in available family support services. SOS provides individuals and families with services in eight areas: self-sufficiency, child development, parent education, in-home visiting, wellness and nutrition, community outreach, service coordination and participant support. SOS provides childcare services for infants to three year-olds and a preschool program for three and four year-olds. Visit www.familiesshine.org for more information.

Kent Youth, Inc., established in 1971, provides a broad spectrum of services to troubled youth and their families, including a group home for adjudicated young boys ages 14 ? 17 and outreach services for young boys and girls still living in their homes or in foster care. A structured program at the group home encourages the boys to learn to make better and more productive life decisions. It delivers these services by developing unique programs for each youth to facilitate growth toward more responsible, self-sufficient adulthood and reintegration into their communities. The youth attend the local public schools and participate in many extra-curricular community activities including volunteer work and the Kent County Adventure Diversion Program.
